Who’s The Plant Handler?

Hey you! I’m Cecelia Nieves, but many of you know me as “CJ” — the hands and heart behind The Plant Handler.

I believe in designing with purpose, growing beautiful blooms and food with care, and creating spaces that nourish the senses from petal to plate. Whether you're dreaming of a wild edible garden that feeds your kitchen, or floral arrangements that tell stories beyond the vase, I’m here to bring your vision to life — organically, artfully, and sustainably.

It all began in 2018 with a deep love for plants and a budding passion for floral design. By 2022, I stepped fully into my role as a full-time gardener and immersed myself in the world of floral artistry.

As I worked more closely with the land, I couldn’t help but question traditional landscaping — food was never a priority. Growing up in a city surrounded by food deserts, I felt a pull to combine my creative work with my passion for flowers and food accessibility. I saw floral & garden design not just as a way to beautify spaces, but as a powerful tool to nourish and uplift our communities.

What started as a small cart I pushed through the streets of downtown Greensboro, NC, each week, has grown into the vibrant and purpose-driven business we now call The Plant Handler.

This is more than a floral installation & garden design studio — it's a movement rooted in care, creativity, and community.

We admire the dedication of community leaders like Nallah Muhammad, the farm executive at Peaceful Seeds of Warnersville who are committed to revolutionizing the way we approach food and collaboration. We are elated to be an official Community Partner of Peaceful Seeds of Warnersville Community Farm, the emphasis on ethical practices not only shapes the present but also paves the way for a more sustainable future.

By harnessing the power of food and collective endeavors, our community is not only nurturing ethical businesses but also cultivating a sense of solidarity that will resonate through future generations. This approach demonstrates a deep-rooted understanding of the interconnectedness between what we consume, the impact it has on our communities and the environment.

At The Plant Handler, we share your passion for fostering ethical communities and businesses that prioritize eco-consciousness and collaboration. We believe that through such concerted efforts, we can shape a future where solidarity and ethical practices are at the core of our existence.

We are grateful to grow in the Warnersville community since 2022.
